Hello there, and thank you for checking out my new blog! Ever watch a movie that just stays with you? Of course you have, we all have. We all have favorite movies that we either associate with a specific time in our lives, like maybe after a break up, or after a loved one passed away. Or perhaps it reflects a much happier time in your life, like when you met your true love, or you gave birth to your first child. No matter what anyone says, movies and film have a way of moving us. They have the ability to tap into our deepest, even darkest feelings, and maybe even summon up emotions we didn’t even know we could experience. Maybe you saw a movie that motivated you to make a major decision in your life, or maybe you saw one that encouraged you to slow things down, take it easy, enjoy what you have in front of you. Film is something that connects us all, and that’s sort of what this blog is intended to do.
I realize that I named this blog the ‘Reel Oldies’ and I don’t want anyone to think that I’m going to be writing all about black and whites or silent pictures, I’m not old enough for that! I’m not even close! In fact, I’m only thirty. So don’t read too much into the title, it’s just that, a title. But for those you that are older, don’t worry, there are a ton of classic films that are my personal favorites, even if they did come out forty years before my time. They may have meant something different to the first generation that saw them, but they had just as much of an impact on me and my life.
And my favorite kinds of films of course, are those that remind of my childhood, of laughs with my school friends, of special moments shared with my mother, and tender moments shared with my father who has since passed. I remember films that my teachers would show in school to help us understand a subject that we were studying, or movies they would show us to encourage us to get out there in the world to make our mark. And sometimes it worked, and other times you would forget what the film was about the moment they clicked it off, that’s just how it was.
If you are in love with film as much as I am, and interested in as many genres as I am, than you’ll definitely want to come back and visit! I’ll be chatting about films that span across the generations, and films that effected just one. Film is a universal language, meant to be shared by all, so come back, and be a part of the reel magic!
